Bunny Story

img001372At work my division has their own separate building; so naturally we have our own little parking lot as well. It’s very convenient for people like me who aren’t very punctual — there’s always open spots. Across the parking lot there’s a grassy area with a few trees and bushes. For the duration of the last few months there’s been bunnies populating that spot.

They’re hidden during the day, but every time I clock out and walk outside, there’s at least 3 in the grassy area. Throughout the months I’ve been walking closer and closer to take a picture of them — they’re very paranoid creatures. Nevertheless, they grew accustomed to me enough that I can get pretty close for a picture. It became a ritual for me.

img001541While the majority are still weary, one got used to me. While the others would slowly hop away if I got too close, this one would stay put. Then it became playful towards me. One evening I’m extremely tired, because of staying out all night, and then working all day. In an almost catatonic state, I clocked out, and shuffled outside. The moment I stepped out the front door, the bunny jumped out of the bushes towards me. Startled, I jumped back, then sighed with relief while the bunny hopped away to the grassy area.

I got in my car, turned the ignition, and backed up. Once I put my car in ‘drive’, the bunny had returned, sitting in front of my car. We locked eyes as it curiously cocked its head at me. I decided to wait it out, thinking it’ll get bored and hop away. I was wrong. A minute passes and the most movement it made was walking back and forth before settling back down on its hind-legs to once again stare at me. I beeped my horn, but it still wouldn’t budge. I chuckled to myself as I got out of my car, walking towards the bunny. It finally hops away to the grassy area, so I got back in my car and began driving away — the bunny once again in the parking lot, watching me leave.

The evenings have grown colder and the sun is setting sooner. Because of this, the bunnies aren’t around anymore. I no longer have the joy of seeing them when I leave work. Alas, after winter they’ll be back again, and hopefully my friend will be around — as long as it doesn’t do something stupid like darting behind my car while I’m backing up.

Thanks for the smiles, bunnies. ’till next time.

Very cute! It’s funny how after work we look for the simple things to relieve us from work.
