‘FML’ Gets Book Deal / Reality Entertainment
The website, ‘Fuck My Life’ gets a book deal even though the site is sufficient enough. Yes, it’s really entertaining, but is a book deal even necessary?
The realm of television is a sea of mediocrity with a handful of diamonds scattered about. Nearly every channel is a form of reality TV based on some inconsequential person/people. Of course the sheeple lap it up while emulating the self-importance portrayed before them. Who doesn’t want to be a “star”? These self-centered documentaries are appalling.
So now a website with summaries — some of which are horribly written — by anonymous posters is getting published. What a great downward spiral the mainstream is going on.
Those who know me personally know why this infuriates me. “Reality” anything taints the craft of film and writing.
(I know I suck at writing. I have a lot to learn. IN TIME. But hey: at least I’m not being published.)
Word
very true… it goes the same with books and movies too… though i LOVE the twilight series… the movie could have been SO much better. lol
very true that any/every channel has some form of “reality tv” but like you said, anyone wants a purpose to become a star no matter if it’s non famous people trying to earn a buck or “celebrities” trying their “shot at love” through a bunch of, no offense, slutty girls or prick type guys.
i guess our nation has a lot of growing up to do…
so i guess you can call it, reality writing. haha.
has a ring to it. anywho, content conveyed in certain forms and mediums are best fitted for that medium, once it’s put into another medium, part of that meaning gets lost. people just look at what’s popular, not at what’s meaningful anymore… sigh.
Well, honestly, there’s nothing really original these days, so I guess when you find something original, even if it’s shit, you gotta nab it and spread it around? Kind of like twilight, but that wasn’t original
Originality isn’t an issue to me. All forms of entertainment borrow from each other. The issue to me — for example: Lew Hunter, a prolific screenwriter who has honed his craft; and then there’s, “Let’s film this person’s ‘fucked up’ life who thinks they’re important/deserves to be a star/wants back in the spotlight!” It ruins the artistic integrity of filming to me. No thought really went into it; just marketing.
I’ve bit my tongue about Twilight on account of a couple friends. They’d hate me if I gave my opinion on that and Stephanie Meyer. Haha.
Yes reality TV is horrible and FML doesn’t deserve to be published, but how much worse off are we watching that than 90% of scripted TV today? With shows as bad as Cold Case, CSI, and Bones it out there, it seems the issue isn’t just reality TV, but TV as a whole that has become shallow and neigh unwatchable. Also one of the few gems we still have may be taken away from us soon, if a show as good as Terminator. The Sarah Connor Chronicles can be discarded so easily what hope is there for TV in the years to come? This combined with increasingly restrictive DRM may lead to the abandonment of TV as soon as more customers realize the alternatives (not just piracy anymore). FML is not the problem here, its only a symptom of the disease that is killing TV.
Its good to see you back, but you can not use the word “sheeple”. It degrades you more than it dose them.
Not to mention the fact that Battlestar Galactica ends tonight which is one of the best scripted shows in such a long time. Of course you wouldn’t know because you never gave it a chance, you prick. You’ll regret that once I hit you over the head with a mini-baseball bat, put you in a straight-jacket, and force you to watch starting with the mini-series.
So what if it degrades me?! When am I not degrading myself?! I willingly got a scene/emo hairstyle after all. “Sheeple” is a fun word to say. Say it. Sheeple!
Sheeple… *giggle*
Well, those horrible shows like CSI get heaps and heaps of viewings; that’s why they keep making more. You have to consider their target audience for this: people that have no life and must live vicariously through television. If you think about it this way, it all makes sense
OUCH!
Ahahaha.
For those in the sport of competative acting, we need actual published material for our different events. So the fact that FML is putting out a book is music to my ears, I can finally preform (mock) some of the stories as a stand up Hummorous Interp! Does anyone know when it comes out?
